Starlight Cameras vs Infrared cameras, what’s the difference?

VP Security Solution Signature Starlight Technology

Starlight cameras are becoming extremely popular. The name is synonymous with color technology at night and delivers impressive results.

Starlight is a confusing term for the common consumer which they do not easily understand. What exactly is Starlight IP Camera, how does Starlight work and what is the difference between Starlight and Infrared cameras?

We will attempt to clarify the definition of Starlight and how it applies to our Eclipse security cameras and provide insight into Starlight CCTV cameras.

What is a starlight camera?

VP Security Solutions Starlight cameras feature specialized Starlight sensors that provide superior night vision in low light conditions.

The light from stars allows cameras to see things that the naked eye cannot see. When the lux level (light level) drops below 20 lux, the human eye has difficulty in recognizing objects. Starlight cameras provide superior visibility even in 0 lux conditions.

How does starlight work?

How exactly does starlight technology work? Does starlight work with no lighting?

The Starlight adopts a large image sensor with a large aperture that is wide while reducing shutter speed to let light in. This technology suppresses noise in video and provides exceptional sensitivity while delivering clear images at night. These clear images allow for full color and more detail to be seen during dark scenes.

Black & White night vision vs starlight

Starlight cameras will provide both black and white and color night vision. If it’s too dark and the lighting conditions are too poor, Starlight cameras will switch to black and white. Because the sensor is more sensitive, the black-and-white images obtained from the Starlight sensor perform better than those from the average security camera without Starlight. Starlight cameras will always choose the best option, black or white or color, depending on the lighting scenario. The VP Security Soul Starlight cameras also have a manual override that allows you to shoot in color at night or in black and white.

Starlight vs Infrared. How does it matter?

Compared to ordinary infrared cameras, Starlight is dominant. Starlight Night Vision provides better night vision than normal infrared night cameras. The image clarity and quality of Starlight cameras deliver color even in low light conditions at night. IR cameras have to use infrared to produce better images at night.

Where should you install Starlight CCTV cameras?

Starlight technology allows you to extend coverage throughout your home or business. With greater visibility and night vision, Starlight security cameras can be used in extended situations, such as front and back yards, parking lots, warehouses, hotel lobbies, and low-light retail stores or offices.

Starlights have an advantage in open areas because they provide distant night vision that can be used at airports, farms, roads, highways, and tourist attractions.

Starlight technology allows for better security as incidents and crimes will be recorded in greater detail allowing better live viewing and recorded incidents can be used to prosecute crimes later.
